Determinism creates a world where there are no ethics. The two can not possibly exist together. Ethics is concerned with the concepts of right and wrong but if the world is predetermined people have no way of controlling the morality of their actions. The essay we read for class brings up an example of a criminal not being personally blamed for his actions because he had no control over what he did. This is what determinism states, a criminal can not decide on their own to do something, the event was predetermined to happen. This is a circular motion, who is to blame? We can not blame the world, that seems like too easy of a way out. Although determinism leads us to do just that. How do we live our life constantly blaming what happens on fate? Doesn't that allow for chaos? Can there be any rules, people could commit multiply crimes and not be blamed for them. There seems to be no way of having a world without ethics, they have to be present in order to keep the world from plunging into unpunished crime. It's a difficult topic to think about. There are so many questions and often they are impossible to answer simply.
Question: Does determinism allow room for societal laws and rules?
